Seinäjoki Power Plant Reaches an Agreement on Continued District Heat Supply

Vaskiluodon Voima Oy, owned by Pohjolan Voima and EPV Energia, has signed an agreement with Seinäjoen Energia Oy concerning the supply of district heat to the Seinäjoki region from Vaskiluodon Voima Oy’s power plant located in Seinäjoki. The agreement is valid until the end of 2016, and Seinäjoen Energia Oy has an option to continue the agreement up until 2020. This agreement is a follow-up to an agreement reached in 1987.

Seinäjoen Energia Oy has 2,600 district heat clients, requiring a total of 400 million kWh of thermal energy. The major share of this energy is supplied on the basis of this agreement. In addition, Seinäjoen Energia Oy’s own peak time and reserve heat stations provide thermal energy in summer and at times of peak load or failure.

Vaskiluodon Voima Oy’s Seinäjoki Power Plant, located by Lake Kyrkösjärvi, provides heat and electricity. The plant was completed in 1990. Its electricity generation capacity is 125 MW and its district heat capacity is 100 MW. It is fired by peat and local, renewable biofuels. The direct annual employment effect of the plant and its fuel acquisition is about 265 man-years.
