Porin Prosessivoima's power plant synchronised to grid

Juttukuva
The generator of Porin Prosessivoima’s new power plant was synchronised to the national grid for the first time on 14 November 2008. The bioenergy plant will come into commercial use during December. The plant has already supplied district heat to Pori Energia’s district heat network and process steam for the industrial needs of Kaanaa and Pihlava.

When completed, the power plant located in Kemira Pigmens Oy’s industrial area in Kaanaa, Pori, will supply 65 MW of electricity, 140 MW of steam and 70 MW of district heat. The power plant will be fuelled by wood, peat, coal and recovered fuels. The project budget is around EUR 140 million.

Energy will be supplied for the requirements of Kemira and the city of Pori. Once the plant is completed, Pori Energia Oy’s old capacity in the Pihlava and Aittaluoto industrial areas operating at lower efficiency will be decommissioned.

The new power plant is a continuation of Pohjolan Voima’s biofuel programme, which aims to increase the use of renewable energy by efficient use of regional bioenergy resources. Porin Prosessivoima Oy, which owns the biopower plant, is a subsidiary of Pohjolan Voima Oy.
