Pohjolan Voima will decrease the starting readiness of the Mussalo coal-fired power plant in Kotka, and the plant will be placed on long-term reserve. The circumstances leading to this decision are mainly the changes in the operating environment that have removed the financial prerequisites of the power plant.
The significant local changes in the operating environment of the power plant particularly include the end of the district heat supply agreement and the transfer of emission allowances mainly to Kotkan Energia. In addition, the forecasted development of market prices of electricity in the next few years has significantly diminished the operating estimates of the power plant.
Keeping the power plant in reserve with reduced starting readiness will decrease the services required for maintenance and operation.
