The co-operation negotiations started in Nokia on 30 October 2009 have now ended. Electricity generation at the power plant run by Nokian Lämpövoima Oy has been suspended since February 2009, and it is not envisaged that electricity generation at the plant will become profitable again over the next few years. The main reasons for the lack of profitability are the high cost of natural gas, the inflexibility of the pricing structure and the difficult situation in the Finnish electricity market.
Consequently, it was decided that the active start-up readiness of the combined cycle power plant would be set at a lower level, and the plant’s operation would have to be readjusted with a view to heat generation requirements.
As part of the readjustment plan, Proma-Palvelut Oy, the provider of the plant’s maintenance services, will have to adapt its number of personnel to correspond to the new production circumstances. As a result of the co-operation negotiations, the number of maintenance personnel will be brought down to 11 from the present figure of 26. Reductions are mainly implemented through pension arrangements. In addition, the employment of six persons will have to be terminated by the end of June 2010.
