Operation control of PVO-Vesivoima's hydropower plants in the Kemijoki river to be manged from UPM Energy control centre in Tampere

Flow regulation and production control operations of the hydropower plants owned by PVO-Vesivoima, a subsidiary of Pohjolan Voima, in the river Kemijoki will be transferred to the UPM Energy control centre in Tampere.  The transfer brings no changes to the flow regulation practices or the ownership of the hydropower plants.

UPM Energy will manage the flow regulation and production control of PVO-Vesivoima's Isohaara hydropower plant in the river Kemijoki starting from 19 September 2018. A corresponding transfer will be carried out at the Jumisko hydropower plant in the river Kemijoki starting from 10 October 2018.

The operation control of PVO-Vesivoima's hydropower plants will be gradually transferred to the UPM Energy control centre in Tampere according to the service agreement on energy management services signed earlier this year by the companies. UPM Energy has managed the flow regulation and production control of Iijoki river's hydropower plants as a service starting from 9 May 2018.

The change will mean improvements in operating efficiency and also produce synergy benefits. At the same time, the expertise in the area of planning and control of hydropower plant operations gathered at the UPM Energy control centre in Tampere will become available to PVO-Vesivoima.

The contact information of the operation control of PVO-Vesivoima’s hydropower plants will change as a result of the transfer. From 19 September 2018 the new telephone number for Isohaara power plant operation control will be +358 (0)40 090 9452 (24 h). At the Jumisko hydropower plant the new number for operation control will be activated on 10 October 2018. The number is already in use for the operation control of the Iijoki hydropower plants' operation control.

Other contact information for the Iijoki hydropower plants will remain unchanged. Current contact information is always available at  https://www.pohjolanvoima.fi/en/contacts.
