Operation control of PVO-Vesivoima's Melo hydropower plant in the Kokemäenjoki river to be managed from UPM Energy control centre in Tampere

Flow regulation and production control operations of the Melo hydropower plant owned by PVO-Vesivoima, a subsidiary of Pohjolan Voima, in the river Kokemäenjoki will be transferred from Harjavalta to the UPM Energy control centre in Tampere.  The transfer brings no changes to the flow regulation practices or the ownership of the hydropower plants.

UPM Energy will manage the flow regulation and production control of PVO-Vesivoima's Melo hydropower plant in the river Kokemäenjoki starting from 21 November 2018.

The operation control of PVO-Vesivoima's hydropower plants are being gradually transferred to the UPM Energy control centre in Tampere according to the service agreement on energy management services signed earlier this year by the companies. The flow regulation and production control of PVO-Vesivoima's hydropower plants in the Iijoki and Kemijoki rivers were transferred to the management of UPM Energy earlier this year.

The change will mean improvements in operating efficiency and also produce synergy benefits. At the same time, the expertise in the area of planning and control of hydropower plant operations gathered at the UPM Energy control centre in Tampere will become available to PVO-Vesivoima. UPM Energy control centre in Tampere also manages the operation control of the hydropower plant of Länsi-Suomen Voima Oy.

New contact information for operation control

The contact information of the operation control of PVO-Vesivoima’s hydropower plants will change as a result of the transfer. From 21 November 2018 the new telephone number for the Melo power plant operation control is +358 (0)40 090 9452 (24 h). The number is already in use for the operation control of the Iijoki and Kemijoki hydropower plants' operation control.

The road over the Melo power plant dam bridge is closed for traffic

The road leading over the Melo hydropower plant dam is closed for traffic until further notice. Cycling or walking over the bridge will not be possible, either. The road over the dam bridge will remain closed due to ongoing repair works of the dam.

The works on the land dam have no environmental effects or any influence on the regulation of the Pyhäjärvi lake.
