Aki Mäki-Petäys appointed as Managing Director of Voimalohi Oy

Mr Aki Mäki-Petäys, PhD, docent, has been appointed as managing director of Voimalohi Oy as of March 2019.

Mr Aki Mäki-Petäys will transfer to Voimalohi Oy from the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), where as a senior scientist he acted as the programme manager of research into the rivers built for hydropower generation at the Institute's Oulu location. At Luke, Mr Mäki-Petäys has been responsible for research projects investigating migrating fish stocks in the rivers built for hydropower generation in the Blue Bioeconomy research programme and for the coordination of the Fisheries Environmental Programme of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).

"We initiated a development project at Voimalohi Oy in summer 2018. The new managing director will be responsible for the realization of the most extensive fish stock management obligations in Finland and for the strengthening of the operations of Voimalohi Oy in fish breeding and stocking as well as in the projects aimed at the restoration of migrating fish", says Mr Tuomas Timonen, Chairman of the Board of Voimalohi Oy.

Voimalohi Oy is responsible for the fish stocking obligations of Kemijoki Oy and PVO-Vesivoima Oy at the Kemijoki and Iijoki water systems and at the Lieksanjoki River. The company also promotes voluntary projects to return migrating fish to the rivers. Voimalohi Oy operates two fisheries and 14 nature nutrition ponds as well as contract fish breeding.
