Pohjolan Voima picked as one of the best workplaces in Finland

For the first time, Pohjolan Voima was included in the list of the best workplaces in Finland in an annual survey carried out by Great Place to Work. The company was ranked 28th in the category of mid-size workplaces.

“It is a great honour for us to be included in the group of Finland’s best workplaces. The credit for this belongs to our personnel, who have participated strongly in building our corporate culture. Working together and a relaxed, immediate and appreciative atmosphere are sources of strength for us”, says Ilkka Tykkyläinen, CEO of Pohjolan Voima.

The results of the Great Place to Work survey are very important to Pohjolan Voima, because the company has undergone great changes in the past few years.

“Our ranking is an indication that we have managed to implement the changes in an interactive fashion, listening to the employees. It is crucial to tightly involve the personnel in the preparation of important initiatives and the development of operations”, Tykkyläinen says.

Pohjolan Voima has carried out a lot of development measures to promote the personnel’s wellbeing at work. According to HR director Tiina Nyström, development of the personnel and supervisor work has been important in the company, even in challenging times.

“The energy sector is undergoing a great change, and at the same time, HR work and corporate culture must also change. Our employees are very proud of their own and the company’s competence, and this can be seen in their desire to develop both their own work and the company’s operations. An atmosphere of trust can be seen in the fact that people dare and can also give constructive criticism and feedback. We have a strong team spirit”, Nyström says.

The personnel-focused thinking is reflected in the results of the Great Place to Work survey.

“In the past few years, Pohjolan Voima has carried out systematic development work to build a great place to work, at times in challenging conditions. The operations are based on a customer-centric approach, and Pohjolan Voima understands that satisfied employees are the key to an excellent customer experience”, says consultant Sonja Hilvo from Great Place to Work.

Great Place to Work has been assembling a list of Finland’s best workplaces for 17 years. This time, approximately 150 organisations were included in the survey, and of them, 50 companies with the best scores made it to the list of Finland’s best workplaces in 2019.
