Lauri Virkkunen Appointed as New Pohjolan Voima CEO

Mr. Lauri Virkkunen (53), M.Sc. (Eng.), M.Sc. (Econ.), will begin serving as President and CEO of Pohjolan Voima from 1 July 2010.

Pohjolan Voima’s current President and CEO, Mr. Timo Rajala (62), will retire after having served the Group for 35 years. After his retirement, Mr. Rajala will continue as an advisor to the management in questions related to the OL3 project.

Mr. Virkkunen will join Pohjolan Voima on 1 June 2010. Before Pohjolan Voima, he has been affiliated with Vattenfall Group. His latest duties with Vattenfall were those of a President and CEO of Vattenfall Oy and the Head of the Nordic Distribution business unit. Mr. Virkkunen has extensive experience as a director with responsibility for business results and more than ten years’ worth of diverse experience in the international energy sector with Vattenfall.

Mr. Rajala's career with Pohjolan Voima management has been a successful and renowned one, and for the last 18 years he has been acting as President and CEO. Under his presidency, Pohjolan Voima has doubled its energy generation capacity to 3,500 MW and invested more than five billion euros in diverse sources of energy production, says Mr. Tapio Korpeinen, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
