The Lapland ELY Centre has published its statement on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) programme for the pumped storage hydropower project we have planned for Askanaava in Kemijärvi.

You can read the statement here (in Finnish only).

Next, we will review the content of the statement and assess the clarifications raised in it. We will inform you of the results of our assessment once the work is completed.

What is this stage of the EIA procedure and the ELY Centre’s statement about?

As part of the EIA procedure, the Lapland ELY Centre issues its statement on the EIA programme within a month of the end of the consultation period. The ELY Centre compiles the opinions of residents and organisations, as well as the statements of authorities, and prepares its statement on the EIA programme based on these and its own expertise. The statement addresses the scope and accuracy of the programme and includes a summary of comments from others.

We submitted the EIA programme for our Puhti project to the Lapland ELY Centre for evaluation on 7 May. The programme has been available for review and comment until 5 June.

The EIA programme is a plan for assessing the environmental impacts of the project’s construction and operation.
